EP. 4: CHANGING THE SYSTEM

ON SCOTTISH INDEPENDENCE

Valentina (20) and Alex (25)  are on the forefront of a new wave of the Scottish independence movement. Young people in Scotland are more determent than ever to leave the ‘opressive’ United Kingdom, a movement that has been fueled by  Brexit and the Covid-crisis. Recent polls show that 55% of Scots now want to leave the UK, 70 % of which are between 16 and 34. On This episode of Changing the System, Laura travels to Glasgow to hear what these young Scots have to say. The episode touches on British identity, globalism versus Brexit, and how the British empire hasn’t only left its traces overseas, but also on its own shores.

EP. 3: CHANGING THE SYSTEM

ON LEGALIZING ALL DRUGS

Why is legalizing *all* drugs a good idea? In episode 3, Laura Kemp asks this question to respected drugs journalist Thijs Roes; a future thinker, system shaker and science lover.

Thijs spent years doing drugs research and it led him into a world of drug policy based on scientifically wrong assumptions."If we don't change the system of drug policy, the war on drugs will be perpetual" he says. "It will cause only more criminalization and on top of that, health risks." In this episde Thijs also colourfully explains how an LSD Trip helped him to quit smoking, and how he believes there should a a legal path to any drug - not because he wants to downplay the risks, but because it will be a safer and fairer society.

Meet our guest: Camille Barton. Camille is an artist, anti-racist activist and drug policy reformer, working with MAPS and RELEASE in the UK. EP. 1: CHANGING THE SYSTEM

ON CHANGING
THE FAST FASHION ECONOMY

Retailers are producing more clothes than ever before. In fact, the production of clothes has doubled in the last 15 years alone. This trend doesn’t show any signs of stopping, even though the garment industry is the most polluting industry in the world: after oil. What can we do?
In the first official episode of Changing The System we’re talking solutions and struggles with London based writer and fast fashion expert Lauren Bravo and Dutch Couture designer David Laport.
